First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five scores during the current campaign
New England tied their top unbeaten stretch since the Brady period as they beat AFC East rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie Henderson led the way with three scores as the Patriots notched an eight-game winning streak for the initial occasion since star signal-caller Brady's last year with the franchise in the 2019 season
Quarterback Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a score, completing 25 of 34 passes
Victory bolsters the Patriots lead at the summit of the division as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York bottom after falling to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had gone in front at their home field with quarterback Fields scoring a short rushing score to finish the Jets' initial series
But the home team answered in the second quarter as the rookie ran in two short rushing scores before the running back caught a pass from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone midway through the third period to make it 21-7
"That was a big time for him delivering, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," the quarterback commented on Henderson. "He wants to be outstanding."
Justin Fields threw to Metchie in the latter part of the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a two kicks in the final period as the Patriots closed out the victory
