In “It’s a Deal”, a look back reveals that popular character Alastor, the Radio Demon was a serial killer in his mortal days. Being aware he was headed to the underworld, he established communication with the realm beyond in advance to obtain a powerful role in Hell. Rosie, who leads the cannibal faction in Hell, promised Alastor he would become “the strongest Condemned Soul in Hell” in exchange for his soul.

This raises an important query: How is this character sufficiently strong to raise Alastor over all other Sinner Demons?

“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the initial building block in a larger narrative that encompasses so much, leading into season 3,” the showrunner explains. “Clearly that is a perfect question: How is she that powerful? The answer might be many things, but the revelation is in season three. I'm very excited for people to see it.”

It is uncertain how long the audience will have to wait for Hazbin Hotel’s next season. The production companies have green-lit the third and fourth seasons, but the showrunner frequently notes that animation is a time-consuming endeavor, and later seasons have no release dates yet. Still, she states withholding on those details is an important part of maintaining the second season's attention where it belongs.

“The challenge of any kind of deal with infernal beings, or stories that have mysteries, is giving the audience just enough information to be like, Something's up here, and then revealing that gradually, and allowing that be satisfying,” she says. “So I'm very excited.”

Questions Answered in The Next Season

The showrunner assures that season 3 will address the questions fans have been posing, such as why Rosie ordered Alastor to vanish for seven years, which diminished his influence in Hell.

“The entire seven-year span, and the pacts these humans are doing, and all that — it's feeding into a bigger narrative,” she says.

In the meantime, the Rosie/Alastor backstory episode offers another glimpse into what the main characters of Sinner Demons appeared as as humans, following after seeing Sir Pentious’ historical mortal appearance in episode 2. She explains that significant consideration was put into these character designs.

“The mortal forms of the characters hold great significance,” she notes. “They range from looking really different from their demon form to seeming very similar. With the first character, the initial design we see, there was some internal discussion within the team between going with a design that symbolizes the personality, as opposed to going with an option that's very time-period accurate. We leaned toward creating something that just felt like it was him.”

She says the primary controversy over the mortal look of Pentious was his long hair: “We were like, ‘Nobody really had long hair of that style in that historical period.’ But simultaneously, we think the outline is extremely crucial, and we also just felt he looked good. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We sort of gave the excuse that he's a hermit, so he just let his hair grow out. So there is always a solution. As we create the mortal forms of these personas […] it is a very enjoyable process to investigate and figure out. I am looking forward for fans to see more of what the human forms look like.”
